Dorsey’s Locker is slated to hold a celebration to honor the12th anniversary of The Blue Candle, the longest running Afrocentric open mic for spoken word artists and comedians in Oakland. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, November 15 beginning at 8:30 p.m. and Luenell will be the special guest host.
The Dorsey’s Locker community stage in Oakland has help launch the successful careers on many entertainers, such as The Punany Poets, Nercity, Jus’BEA, Nema Williams, Kirk McHenry and Daniel Dugar. Former hosts of the program have gone on to become well known in the community, such as Audrey Lee. The very first host of The Blue Candle, Ms. Lee was a successful KPFA radio personality. Other prior hosts include Jay Crowe, Roxanne Ware, Ghetto Girl Blue, Nercity, President Davis, Jus’BEA, and Rye.
The Blue Candle provides exceptional entertainment to the patrons of Dorsey’s Locker every Tuesday night at 8:30. Spoken words artists make people think and the comedians make them laugh while they are enjoying the exceptional food and spirits the establishment has to offer.
